4 Steps Back Up Your Holiday Memories (Before It’s Too Late)

The holiday season is upon us once again! It’s a time for family and friends to gather, exchange presents and laughs and make lasting memories. But it’s easy to forget, as you’re snapping photos and making videos, that all of those precious moments could disappear in a flash. Slipping on ice and dropping your phone onto the pavement, sipping hot cocoa on your laptop, or accidentally placing your digital camera into a bowl of eggnog could lead to disastrous results. But never fear! To help you keep all of those cherished memories safe for years to come, here are a few tips from Acronis:

1. Link All of Your Devices to the Cloud

Long gone are the days of having to physically plug your phone or camera into your computer in order to download files; with the cloud, all the work is done for you! So while the clouds outside are providing some of us with a white Christmas, the digital cloud can protect you from the dreaded “white screen” of death (or theft or any other disaster) by backing up your phone, tablet or computer to protect your photos, videos and other important personal information.

2. Schedule Recurring Backups

Worried you won’t be able to remember what you did last night, let alone to do a full backup of your photos in the morning? Scheduling automatic backups takes all the work out of saving your data. If you’re constantly uploading files during the holidays, consider increasing the frequency with which your computer and other devices auto-backup.

3. Store Your Files in Multiple Locations

Even if you get a new device for the holidays, if you lose your old one, you’ll never be able to recover your photos, videos, data and other information. Always try to store your favorite photos and important documents in more than one place – on your computer, in the cloud, on your mobile device(s), etc. Note: simply uploading them to Facebook or Instagram doesn’t do the trick – all you’ll be left with is a low-resolution version if you lose the original!

4. Conduct a Full-System Backup

Don’t think you have enough time to let your devices run a full-system backup? The holidays are a perfect time for a little screen vacation. Take advantage of the time spent with your family and friends away from your screens and let your electronics backup while you sit by the fire, go ice skating or take in a movie. You’ll come back with happy holiday memories and all of your devices will be protected and ready to go.
